SADA HISTORY

Founded in 1965, the SADA is South Australia’s largest, longest running and most recognised debating association, running a successful schools competition since 1966.  For over 40 years the SADA has focused on providing inclusive debating programs with a strong educational focus, allowing all students to develop and to enjoy debating.

Many people who have been involved in the SADA have made significant professional and personal contributions on a local, national and international level.  Prominent SADA alumni include:

  • John Bannon - Premier of South Australia, 1982 to 1992

  • Jack Snelling – Member for Playford and Treasurer of South Australia

  • Francis Nelson QC – Barrister

  • Keith Conlon OAM – Journalist and broadcaster

  • Julia Gillard – former Prime Minister

  • Annabel Crabb – Journalist and opinion writer
