Points of Information

Demonstration Debate

A Point of Information is a type of conditional interjection. It is practiced at the National Championship, and aims to keep speakers engaged in the debate, and encourages a much more interactive style of debating. These are practiced in the Senior A-Grade division throughout the season, and in the Senior B-Grade for the final debate of the year.

If a speaker wishes to offer a Point of Information, they must stand and clearly say the words “Point of Information. The speaker who has the floor then has the option to decline or accept the Point of Information. If it is declined, the offerer will resume his or her seat.

If it is accepted then the offerer has fifteen seconds to make a comment or ask a question pertinent or material to the debate.

Senior Grades

The SADA offers two grades for senior (Year 11 and 12) students. In general, an ordinary Year 11 team will debate in Senior B-Grade, and an ordinary Year 12 team will debate in Senior A-Grade. However, Year 11 teams of a high standard are permitted to debate in the Senior A-Grade competition, and a novice Year 12 team will derive more benefit debating in the Senior B-Grade competition. Composite teams with students from both year levels are permitted to debate in either grade, and co-ordinators should enter teams in whichever level they deem appropriate.
