Adjudicators
Adjudicators are a fundamental part any debate.
While their primary task is to decide the debate, the SADA, recognises an adjudicator's performance often ensures that students maintain a healthy attitude and continue to improve their skills. As such our adjudicators are trained to give insightful feedback, both positive and negative, to all speakers.
All SADA adjudicators must pass an accreditation process, including a lecture from the SADA’s Vice President, a written test, and a peer reviewed adjudication when starting out. A ‘refresher’ course is offered at the start of each year.
To ensure the integrity of our adjudicator pool, secondary students are not eligible to adjudicate in our schools competition.
To ensure consistency of understanding of debating principles across all our adjudicators, all SADA adjudicators are trained in accordance with the standards followed by the Australian Debating Federation. Those standards are set out in the Australia Asia Debating Handbook available on the Debater's Association of Victoria website.
For all adjudicating enquires please do not hesitate to contact the Vice President and coordinator of adjudicating, Anna Baulderstone via email at adjudication@sada.org.au
